Breathe, then push
Hi all, I hope you are managing to keep warm. I am currently testing if there is such a thing as 'too many jumpers'?
Last date to book
So, we will be moving in October. Our landlords need to sell to help fund building their Retreat in Melbourne. If you know anyone who may be interested in buying the place either to continue it as a retreat, or just to live here, do pass on the word. The last date for guests to stay will be 22nd September 2025. So please pass on this post to any friends you think may enjoy the peace and tranquility of Treargel.
And book now to insure your place this Spring or Summer.
A space, just for you

We have a gorgeous place for anyone wanting to ‘get away from it all’. Whatever ‘It’ is, Treargel is a peaceful, beautiful place, surrounded by nature. Come for a holiday or retreat. With accommodation just for you, whether that’s a cosy stone cottage with all the mod-cons. A cabin in the woods, away from everyone except the moorhens and badgers. Or a simple Shepherd’s Hut overlooking the bay.
So much to see and do
There's lots to do nearby. The ancient coastal town of Looe; known for crabbing, fudge, and ‘pasties to die for’ (Sarah’s of course, IYKYK). The Coastal Path, soon to be immortalised by Gillian Anderson in the new film of Raynor Winn’s Salt Path. Old buildings to explore; Talland Church just down our lane was founded in the 5th Century and parts of the 13th century building still exist. There are the more famous historical houses such as Lanhydrock, Cotehele, and Mount Edgecumbe. Amazing gardens and walks include Golitha Falls, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Sibleyback Lake and the Eden Project. Plus lesser known ones, such as St Nonna’s Well, the stream that runs through St Clether’s Chapel, or the remains of Lammana Chapel (as seen on Time Team). We have our very own beach, Port Nadler, just 20 minutes walk down the coastal path (well, it feels like it belongs to us, it's so quiet). A bit further is Bodmin Jail, Jamaica Inn, and the natural wonders of the Cheesering. I could go on. There is such a lot to see and do around us in North East Cornwall.
See the Welcome to Looe and Polperry website for more details.
Day guests
If you live nearby, please book yourself in for the day. Enjoy the gardens, walk the labyrinth, journal in the Shepherd’s Hut or Hermitage, and take in the sea on the Coastal Path. Just bring a packed lunch and donation.
Don’t let finances be a barrier
If the price would stop you coming, apply to me for a bursary and get 50% off the cost of your stay, up to £150. I will get 5 new bursaries to offer in April. Or, if you are a teacher, apply for the new Teacher’s Bursary (only for Church of England Schools). Thanks to the fabulous Association for Promoting Retreats, for enabling us to offer these.
Breathe, then push (or retreat, in order to go ahead)
As I was cleaning today I listened to Valerie Kaur*. A woman who has been fighting against racial injustice and hate violence for the last 20 years. There came a time, after becoming a mother, she realised she was always breathless; always leaning forward, always pushing, pushing, pushing. Her mother reminded her, “You need to breathe, you have been pushing all the way, you need to breathe”. She noticed that within labour, there is a cadence. Yes, we need to push, but just as important is breathing deeply, so we can push again. This can also be true in life. We all need a rhythm of leaning in, stepping back, to lean in again.
We are here for you
I know many of you who read this blog are pushing. For greater justice in unfair systems, for more love and care for those on the edge, and to bring hope to a desperate world. If we can help you in this rhythm; to give you time and space to breathe, to go alongside the times you are pushing, then we are here for you. (If you can't come to Cornwall, book some time in your diary at home, and do it anyway).
To create, fight, and hold space for others; we need a rhythm of pushing and breathing.
I feel like a new woman

My most recent guest was brave enough to do this. Making time out of her busy schedule to be alone for 6 days down in our Hermitage, a cabin in the woods. To retreat in solitude and silence is a big sacrifice, and from my experience, not easy. It can be a dark place, emotionally and spiritually. However, my guest said that on day three, things turned.
On her last day, as she walked up out of the woods she exclaimed excitedly;
“I feel like a new woman!”,
“I feel 6 foot tall”.
The journey was difficult, but what a reward! She now feels able to continue the many roles she holds; with vigor, love, and creativity.
Take time to Breathe Deeply, then you can continue to Push.
I have no budget left for advertising, so am relying on you to pass on our details to those who are pushing for a better world.
